Last night we screened the world premiere of Avengers: Infinity War at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. It was the first time the cast had seen the full movie, and we had the pleasure to see it with them.
This is one the most highly anticipated movies of the year. This is 10 years of Marvel Studios Legacy in the making and you won’t be disappointed. Avengers: Infinity War was everything I wanted and more. 2 hours and 40 minutes nearly flew by. I laughed, I cried, and I sat at the edge of my seat with heart palpitations for nearly the entire film. I left the theatre happy, sad, anxious, angry, and in complete awe of what the studio is capable of producing. A full day later, and I’m still processing what I saw. I can’t wait to see it with my family again this weekend.
Thanks to Walt Disney Studios for bringing me to Los Angeles to be a part of this legendary evening. As always, all opinions are my own.
Here’s our spoiler-free Avengers: Infinity War review and what you need to know about Avengers: Infinity War before the film releases on April 27, 2018.
There was an idea, Stark knows this, called the Avengers Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles we never could. —Nick Fury
Enter the Avengers. Thanos vowed to wipe out half the universe with the snap of a finger if he got his hands on all six of the Infinity Stones. While I want this to be a spoiler-free review, I think we all know it wouldn’t be a quality movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if the villain didn’t at least start what he set out to succeed. And why would we need the Avengers or an Avengers 4 Untitled film if he didn’t attempt to wipe out half the universe as promised? I mean, someone probably dies? That’s as spoilery as we get around these parts.
Thanos demands your silence and that’s what you get at least until Monday (then join our #MarvelMondays twitter chat to talk all things Avengers: Infinity War).
Is Avengers: Infinity War safe for kids?
If you’re a parent and plan to take young kids, consider what they can handle. This film is quite dark, is riddled with intense fight scenes, has some language, and has three complex storylines. It could be too much for the younger kids. Consider seeing it once first before taking the little ones even if you often take them to see Marvel films.
Avengers: Infinity War brings the girl power
Marvel has loads of strong female role models. Shuri, Okoye and the Dora Milaje, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Gamora, Nebula, Proxima Midnight. Avengers: Infinity War is full of strong female characters who show resilience, strength, and bravery.
Avengers: Infinity War is all about the tech
Just about every character who can get an upgrade in their tech, gets an upgrade. We see Spider-Man with his Iron Spider suit in the trailer. We saw Spidey with his new gift from Tony Stark at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and we’ve been waiting anxiously to see it in action.
Tony Stark has his new Bleeding Edge (or similar) suit (it’s super bad ass and I don’t even like Tony Stark). Cap gets new shields, Thor gets a new hammer, Bucky gets a new arm, and the Hulkbuster is back!
Avengers: Infinity War brings so many of your favorite Marvel icons in one movie
Marvel gathered your favorites from the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Dr. Strange, Black Panther, and Spider-Man all in under the same title for the battle of the universe.
Avengers: Infinity War if you read a few comics…or at least read about the Infinity Stones
Listen, you can watch this movie and follow along if you’ve watched the previous Avengers and MCU movies. However, if you want to REALLY get a few more of these scenes and nuances, I highly suggest you read a couple of quick comic books and/or blog posts first. You can spend 15 minutes or so learning about Thanos and the Infinity Stones here and then if you want to read a couple of comics, check out this post for some tips on which comics are super helpful as quick primers. Also, check out Ashley’s post on comics to read, too. You’ll just appreciate some scenes so much more. Promise.
Don’t forget to stay for an epic stinger at the end!!
