We just got back from a vacation to one of our favorite places—Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Cruise Line and Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas.

This was our third visit to this magical paradise, a regular stop on the Disney Cruise Line’s Caribbean route.
Both the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy cruise ships make stops at Castaway Cay.
This 3-mile long island is worth the day in port. I know some people like to stay on the ship, but make sure you get off the ship. There’s something for everyone.
Best Disney Cruise Line Photos to Take on Castaway Cay
Beautiful blue water, white sand, snorkel/tube/bike rentals, family beach, adults-only beach, multiple dining areas, multiple bars and snack shops, shopping, beach chairs and hammocks for relaxing, water structure, Scuttle’s Cove kids area—the list goes on. The amenities are endless.
Among the amenities are also beautiful backdrops for photos. We’ve compiled a list of the most photogenic backdrops for you to take photos while visiting Disney’s Castaway Cay that you won’t want to miss.

Boat Beach
The area of Castaway Cay that houses the sailboats is a great photo opp. Lots of bright colors and angles for a fabulous photo.
Mount Rushmore
This iconic location features buoys with Mickey and friends offers a must-take Castaway Cay photo opp.
Heads Up Bar/Sand Bar
Who doesn’t need a photo with a beach bar? Check.
Pelican Plunge Overlook
This oversized kids’ play structure in the ocean is both a great backdrop for photos as well as a place to take photos from.
Serenity Bay
The adults-only beach, Serenity Bay, is beautiful and peaceful and offers great unobstructed views of the ocean.
Olaf “Sand” Sculpture at Summertime Breeze Kiosk
Olaf is the cutest. And the irony. Olaf in the sun.
Laying in a Hammock
You had me at hammock. Two of the three times we’ve been to Castaway Cay we’ve snagged a hammock for the day. I love a good hammock.
Ice Cream from Cookies BBQ or Cookies Too BBQ
One must grab an iconic shot of the ice cream swirl against the tropical backdrop of Castaway Cay. There’s other food for great photos, too, if food photos are your jam.
Characters
Whether you snap a photo with a character right off the boat or at the beach, a day at Disney’s Castaway Cay wouldn’t be complete without a character photo!
As you disembark the ship and get ready to re-board, you’ll find photo opps with characters such as Stitch, Captain Hook, Captain Jack Sparrow, and Mickey Mouse. As you head toward the tram and the beach you’ll spot favorites from the Fab Five like Donald Duck. You’ll also spot some of your favorite friends during the dance party.
Activities (biking, snorkeling, etc.)
If you rent a bike for an hour or so, or rent a snorkel to go see what lives in the reef, these are both great opportunities to find some nature and scenery for photos that could make great backdrops.
Post Office and Gas Pump
Among the props on the island, you can find to take photos with, the post office and gas pump are great photo opp options.
Disney Castaway Cay 5k photo (if you ran the Castaway Cay 5k)
We all know a post-event selfie is a “thing” these days. Why not flex your accomplishment with a photo of your Disney Castaway Cay 5k medal with a beautiful tropical backdrop?
Ship Photos
Throughout the island you’ll find several perfect opportunities for photos, some may even have professional cruise photographers set up for you. There are several as you walk past the ship toward the beach (or as you return to the ship), from the beach, and in front of the Castaway Cay Farewell Photo Sign.
Castaway Cay Frame Sign
You would be remiss if you didn’t snap a shot of the ship as you exited Castaway Cay. There’s a perfect photo opp frame set up to stand with the ship behind you.
