Comic nerds know the best part of comic book movies are the Easter eggs. DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE is no different and loaded with so many great Easter eggs, cameos, and callbacks. Here are the Best Easter Eggs in DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE we found.
Best Easter Eggs in DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE
DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE is worth it for the cameos and quotes alone, but the list of Easter eggs and callbacks is massive. Here’s the list of the best easter eggs and deepest cuts we found.
Spoiler Warning: Stop reading if you haven’t seen the film because this is one giant spoiler.
Marvel Logo Scroll
Deadpool has been added to the opening scroll of the Marvel Studios logo, right after Captain America. Deadpool humming along to the fanfare is an added bonus for the audience.
On Earth-616
The version where the majority of the MCU takes place and our Earth.
March 14, 2018
This date in Marvel history: New comics released on 3/14/18 include All-New Wolverine #32, Astonishing X-Men #9, Old Man Logan #36, Spider-Man/Deadpool #29, Despicable Deadpool #296, and X-Men: Blue #23.
Happy Hogan
In the film, Wade Wilson visits Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) on 3/14/2018 on Earth-616 to ask about becoming an Avenger. In Happy’s office, we see several Easter eggs including:
- Captain America’s shield (a deconstructed prototype)
- Iron Man helmet (Mark V)
- Iron Man helmet (War Machine/Mark II)
- Iron Man 2 (2010) Swinging Sticks
- Phil Coulson’s Captain America Trading Cards
- Pepper Potts’ Forbes Magazine
- Proof that Tony Stark has a Heart
- Photo of Tony Stark (the one with him and Peter Parker, though you can’t see Peter in the shot we get)
- 1954 Stark Expo Poster (framed on the wall)
Wade mentions he was the leader of X-Force but that they all died (Deadpool 2, 2018). Technically, they died by gravity, but Wade says it is because they didn’t test well, especially Cable.
On Earth-10005
This is the reality used in materials tied to the 20th Century Fox’s original X-Men film universe.
Logan’s Flipped Car
When Deadpool arrives to get Logan at his grave, we see the background where Logan died. The fallen tree, the flipped car. At At the 2:08:33 mark of Logan (2017), when X-23 holds Logan as he breathes his last breath it is in this spot, where Deadpool takes out the TVA guys.
We see more Logan footage in the TVA later on.
Logan’s Grave
Deadpool is at Logan’s grave to resurrect him, as he reminds the audience that Logan can’t actually be dead because of his regenerative healing powers. Deadpool calling Wolverine “Hugh” is icing on the cake in this scene.
“Maximum Effort”
One of Deadpool’s catchphrases, we hear it uttered in the first movie in the first few minutes.
Bye Bye Bye
When the TVA Minutemen arrive to arrest Wade, Deadpool fights them using Wolverine’s skeletal remains while dancing and fighting to *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye,” synchronized to the beat, with choreography that is from the iconic video.
“Keep my country’s name out of your f*cking mouth”
As Deadpool is slashing all the TVA minutemen, one comments about Deadpool killing the best thing to come out of Canada (Wolverine) and Deadpool says, “Keep my country’s name out of your f*cking mouth.” Likely a nod to the infamous Oscar’s Slap.
Drivemax
Where Wade Wilson works on Earth-10005 with his buddy Peter (Rob Delaney). Peter keeps the Deadpool 2 suit in his locker just in case.
On the locker, there is a sticker that reads “Notts County FC.” Notts is the team that beat Wrexham A.F.C. soccer team that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (who was billed as a TVA soldier but shared on social his cameo was cut) are part owners of. There is another sticker that reads “Please Bee Kind.”
When Deadpool and Wolverine crash back into their own timeline after being in The Void, they land in the Drivemax parking lot. Deadpool tells the kids that Fox fired Wolverine but Disney brought him back to life and is going to make him keep doing this until he’s 90.
Pizzeria in Brooklyn
Every MCU movie has a Brooklyn pizzeria featured.
Apartment #17
The #17 has a little significance in the comics.
- Deadpool #17 (1997): Deadpool uses goggles to see into distant worlds, and he has a teleporter.
- Cable & Deadpool #17 (2005): This is part of the “House of M” storyline; Deadpool finds Cable is alive as a baby.
- Deadpool #17 (2009): Deadpool joins the X-Men. Just read this one.
Wade’s Birthday Party
Party guests from previous Deadpool movies including Yukio, Blind Al, Buck, Shatterstar, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Vanessa, Colossus, Dopinder, and Peter.
- Yukio: Shioli Kutsana is back as Yukio, last seen in Deadpool 2 (2018)
- Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Briana Hildebrand), Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Dopinder (Karan Soni) all last seen in Deadpool 2 (2018) and then forced into the family holiday Once Upon a Deadpool special by Deadpool.
- Shatterstar: Lewis Tan reprises his role as Shatterstar, last seen in Deadpool 2 (2018).
- Buck: Randall Reeder is back as Buck, last seen in Deadpool 2 (2018)
- Colossus: Stefan Kapcic is back as Colossus, last seen in Deadpool 2 (2018).
Wade Wilson’s Wig
He has a Toupee in this movie, but we saw him in Deadpool 2 with a wig in a strip club.
“Hi, Yukio!”
Whenever Wade and Yukio see each other, he initially greets her with a, “Hi, Yukio,” and she replies with, “Hi, Wade.”
Cocaine Jokes
There a scene in the apartment where Blind Al and Wade riff about cocaine and how they can’t talk about it per the studio. Blind Al and Wade have been making jokes about cocaine since Deadpool (2016).
Do you want to build a snowman?
During the cocaine jokes Blind Al makes this cocaine reference. In Deadpool 2 (2018), Deadpool since this in the bar, pointing out how it sounds oddly like “Papa can you hear me?” from Fiddler on the Roof.
Wade cuts off Buck
Wade cuts off Buck from speaking at the birthday party. In Deadpool 2, Wade tells Buck, “No more speaking lines for you.”
Aviation Gin
Guests are doing shots at the party. Aviation Gin is the distilling company Ryan Reynolds owns.
Pegging
Wade makes a pegging joke and comments it isn’t new to him, just to Disney. In Deadpool (2016) there is a scene that alludes to Vanessa pegging him and he stops her saying it’s too much.
“Angel of the Morning”
This song was also used in the opening credits of Deadpool.
Hunter B15
Wunmi Mosaku reprises her “Loki role” as Hunter B15. She is told there is an unauthorized time ripper in Earth-10005.
Deadpool Corp Variants (10005)
Deadpool fans love and expect Deadpool Corp Variants. We are first introduced to Dogpool and then Nicepool. Here’s a list of what we see in Earth 10005):
- Dogpool: Peggy the Dog
- Headpool : Nathan Fillion
- Dancepool: Nicholas (Nick) Pauley
- Lady Deadpool: Blake Lively
- Babypool: Olin Reynolds (son of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds)
- Kidpool: Inez Reynolds (daughter of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds)
- Cowboypool: Matthew McConaughey
- Nicepool: Ryan Reynolds
- Peterpool: Rob Delaney
- Samurai Deadpool
- Iron Deadpool
- Golden Age Deadpool
- Welsh Deadpool: Wrexham forward Paul Mullin
- Canadapool: Alex Kyshkovych, stuntman/stunt coordinator for Deadpool and Wolverine, The Adam Project (2022), X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019), Deadpool 2 (2018), X-Men: Apocolypse (2016), Deadpool (2016), X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Deadpool breaks the fourth wall to drop a reference to Ryan Reynolds’ Van Wilder movie. Nicepool says he can do that too and says “The Proposal.”
Deadpool tells them to stop doing the multiverse thing and that The Wizard of Oz did it best.
Liefield Just Feet
The “Liefield Just Feet” storefront is a nod to Deadpool comic creator Rob Liefield who was notorious for his inability to draw feet.
Copperheads
The bar/store front logo is likely a nod to the Copperheads in the Marvel Comics. Davis Lawfers (Earth-616) joined a group of snake-themed villains organized by the terrorist the Viper to infiltrate the criminal organization known as the Serpent Society so he could take it over. Lawfers is a Captain America villain.
Given that the next MCU film is slated to be Captain America: Brave New World, which is widely expected to feature the Serpent Society, it’s most likely not a coincidence that the group is getting a namedrop.
The Wolverine Cowl
Wolverine finally dons his comic-accurate cowl to fight the Deadpool Corp Variants.
Stan Lee Nod
No more cameos but we’ll always get a nod. There is a “Stan Lee Steamer” ad on the side of the bus.
Loki Series Visuals
As the universe decays during the final battle, we get spaghetti visuals from “Loki.”
Shwarma
A nod to the Avengers, Deadpool suggests and they go eat shwarma after saving the universe. He says, “Did you know the Avengers discovered Sharma?”
Scout Master Kevin
Deadpool mentions Scout Master Kevin. This is a nod to a Deadpool 2 (2018) joke he makes during a fight in Tokyo.
Cain Aiden
Appearing as a pedestrian, Aiden was previously in “Secret Invasion.”
Terence Hughes
Appearing as a pedestrian, Hughes was previously in “Loki.”
In the TVA
Deadpool is greeted by members of the TVA at his birthday party. This is huge because it connects Fox’s Marvel (which we also see in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness) to the actual MCU. This is part of the reason I suggest watching “Loki” in my watch list to be up-to-date on who and what the TVA is.
Mr. Paradox
The TVA Minutemen take Wade to meet Paradox at the TVA. Paradox shows Wade the Sacred Timeline. Mr. Paradox is played by Matthew Mcfadyen (“Succession,” Pride & Prejudice).
Captain America
As Deadpool is introduced to the multiverse (and the MCU) by Mr. Paradox, the audience gets to see some of the heroes from the MCU. There’s a shot of three screens showing Captain America, two of which are from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The Avengers’ Theme is heard.
Level 943
After Deadpool puts on his new suit (complete with Adamantium Katanas), he is standing by an elevator that reads “943.” This is likely a nod to either Earth-943 or the comic Cable and Deadpool #43.
Earth-943 is the alternate universe Earth. Jocasta is of the alternate-dimensional Avengers recruited by Proctor into his second team of Gatherers in exchange for meeting the alternate version of her husband from Earth-616. Skeptical of Proctor’s true motives, she fought alongside him and his team against the Avengers of Earth-616. The parallel to Deadpool/Paradox in this moment is relatable.
In the comic Cable and Deadpool #43, Deadpool pays his respects to a deceased Cable and prevents Wolverine from breaking into a HYDRA base.
“Suck it FOX. I’m going to Disneyland!”
Deadpool yells into the camera. One big giant eff you to Fox.
Anchor Being
This one isn’t an Easter egg as much as a NEW concept that we will undoubtedly see going forward in the MCU.
Mr. Paradox describes anchor being as someone whose mere presence in their timeline stabilizes it. If said being dies, their universe begins to steadily decay until it disappears completely.
“You’re going to Old Yeller my f*cking universe?”
Deadpool says this to Paradox. If you haven’t seen Old Yeller, the crux of this is that dog is put down.
Wolverine variants
As Deadpool travels to get a new Wolverine, we see several Wolverine variants including:
- Short Comic-accurate Wolverine
- Old Man Logan
- Patch (undercover Madripoor the Wolverine)
- Cavillrine: Henry Cavill is the Wolverine seen working on the motorcycle; Deadpool tells him Marvel will treat him better than the studio down the street
- Apocalypse Wolverine (the one missing a hand because of Cyclops)
- Original Comic Brown Suit Wolverine who is fighting The Hulk (Edward Norton Hulk based on the footage).
- Uncanny X-Men Wolverine (being crucified on a giant X as in the comic)
Other Easter eggs we get as Deadpool is traveling for a new Wolverine:
- Moon Knight’s Ice Cream Truck
- Red Skull’s Car
- Deadpool says “On Your Left” as he sits next to Logan at the bar (Captain America’s line).
- Deadpool cracks a joke that this Wolverine will do musicals (Hugh Jackman is known for musicals (The Greatest Showman, “The Music Man,” Les Miserables, Pan, Oklahoma, “The Boy from Oz,” etc.)
- Tony McCarthy: Appearing as a bartender; McCarthy is not new to the MCU, with roles in The Marvels, “Secret Invasion,” Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Black Widow.
- Ollie Palmer: Wrexham forward appears as a bar patron.
- “I wouldn’t want to fight me either.” Logan says this to Deadpool in the bar. Peter Parker says it to his schoolmate in Spider-Man 2 (2002) and the fight scene choreo is almost the same in that hallway fight as Deadpool and Wolverine when they first start fighting in The Void.
Wolverine Comic Book Suit
Wolverine in his classic ’90s yellow and blue outfit is the one he’s wearing in the multiverse that Deadpool finds him in when he gets him in the bar.
I like me heart mug
Seen in the opening desecration of Logan’s grave we also see the TVA tech (James Dryden) holding this mug in the TVA scene. Deadpool totally snagged it.
In the Void
When Deadpool and Wolverine are zapped by Mr. Paradox to the Void with a TVA Time Stick, we see lots of Marvel artifacts including:
- Thor’s winged helmet
- Captain America’s Shield (from his USO days)
- Broken 20th Century Fox Logo (we see Deadpool reload his pistols in the void standing in front of the half-buried 20th Century Fox logo
- “Secret Wars” comic book (on the left of the screen, right after they wake up in the Void); The specific comic “Secret Wars” (2015) #5, featuring God-Doom and The Beyonder and explores the creation of Battleworld.
- Broken bottle of radiation poison from The Incredible Hulk
- Avengers Helicarrier
- Anarchy Avengers logo on flag
- Golden Gate Bridge from X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
- CN Tower
- Giant-Man (its body is the HQ for Cassandra Nova); Deadpool makes a joke that Paul Rudd has finally aged when the helmet reveals a skull underneath
- Red Skull’s Car from Captain America The First Avenger (2011)
- Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch (Chris Evans), Deadpool comments on his “superhero pose.” Deadpool made jokes about superhero landings/poses back in Deadpool (2016).
- Sabretooth: Pro-wrestler Tyler Mane is back as Sabretooth, last seen in X-Men (2000)
- Mortimer Toynbee / Toad: Ray Park is back as Toad, last seen in X-Men (2000); Star Wars fans should recognize the legendary Darth Maul actor
- Pyro: Aaron Stanford as Pyro from X2: X-Men United (2003) is back
- Pyramids from “Moon Knight”
- Ed Kear: Appearing as an outpost tech, Kear starred as Olega Padawan in Star Wars “The Acolyte.”
- Ships from Avengers Infinity War
- Asgard’s Castle
- The Milano (ship to the Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Scarlet Witch’s shrine
- One of the screaming mutants is James Reynolds, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s oldest daughter.
Mad Max
Deadpool says the Void looks like Mad Max but that would be IP infringement. He later does a Mad Max speech when he holds up Sabretooth’s decapitated head.
Alioth
As seen in “Loki “Season 1 Episode 5, as Deadpool reminds the audience. Mentioned several times before we see it. Deadpool and Wolverine use the leg of Hulkbuster Armor as the escape Alioth.
Johnny Storm tells Deadpool and Wolverine there are survivors in the Borderlands.
Cassandra Nova
Straight from the comics, played by Emma Corrin, still in utero, Charles Xavier recognized his twin Cassandra as an evil presence and preemptively tried to kill her. Their mother miscarried, and Cassandra was stillborn but survived as a mass of growing cells in a sewer wall, building a new body for herself and planning her revenge on her brother. Her telepathy is comparable to Charles Xavier and she represents everything he stands against.
While her origin story here is a touch different it is recognizable enough to placate most comic fans.
Cassandra Nova is sitting on Odin’s Throne in Giant-Man’s skull.
Cassandra Nova’s Henchmen/Enforcers
Cassandra’s henchmen, seen entering on Charles Xavier’s hover chair, include Deathstrike, Juggernaut, and Azazel.
- Yuriko Oyama / Deathstrike: Last seen in X2: X-Men United (2003), Kelly Hu is back as Deathstrike.
- Juggernaut is played by former WWE pro wrestler Aaron W. Reed, who also starred in Free Guy.
- Azazel is played by Jason Flemying, reprising his role from X-Men: First Class (2011).
“The Music Man”
Deadpool threatens Cassandra Nova that Wolverine will do the second act of “The Music Man” without warming up. Hugh Jackman starred in “The Music Man” on Broadway.
Telling Blake
As Deadpool and Wolverine escape Alioth, Deadpool tells Wolverine to get his mind out of his ass or he’s telling Blake. Blake Lively is Ryan Reynolds wife.
Joe’s Pizza
Deadpool and Wolverine enter a diner that looks to be Joe’s Pizza from Spider-Man 2 (2004).
Spider-Man Hand Gestures
On the road trip in the Betsy the Honda Odyssey, Deadpool is making Spider-Man hand gestures. Clearly when Peter asked for all of the universes to forget about him at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home that didn’t quite happen.
Car Fight
Deadpool and Wolverine have it out in the Honda Odyssey named Betsy they are road-tripping in. The music that comes on the radio includes a snippet of “The Greatest Show” from The Greatest Showman followed by “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease. Hugh Jackman stars in The Greatest Showman.
Survivors Hideout in the Borderlands
Deadpool and Wolverine are rescued and wake up in a hideout (Wolverine is on the tooth bed from Thor Ragnarok) where they meet:
- Elektra: Comic fans aren’t mad about the return of Jennifer Garner to the big screen to revive her role as Elektra.
- Blade: Wesley Snipes reprises his role as the only Blade ever.
- Gambit: Channing Tatum appears as Gambit. New to Marvel, but not new to working with Ryan Reynolds, Tatum was in Free Guy (2021). There were lots of jokes about the canned Gambit movie and the terrible accent Tatum uses in the film.
- Laura /X-23: Dafne Keen as Logan’s cloned daughter is back. We last saw her in Logan (2017). Star Wars fans will also recognize her as Jecki Lon in “The Acolyte.” Deadpool told Logan about X-23 and how he died to save her in another universe when they were in the diner. X-23 is the one who saved them from the Honda Odyssey.
Inside the hideout, we get more Easter eggs including:
- The Punisher, Quicksilver, and Daredevil used to be with their group. Deadpool makes a comment to Elektra saying he’s sorry about Daredevil, to which Elektra replies, “Not me.”
- Logan name-drops Jean, Scott, Storm, and Beast while talking to X-23.
- We see the statue of Scarlet Witch from Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (2022).
- Deadpool comments on how Wolverine is usually shirtless but he has let himself go since the divorce. Hugh Jackman and wife Deborah have recently divorced.
Deadpool Corp Variants (The Void)
Deadpool fans love and expect Deadpool Corp Variants. We are first introduced to Dogpool and then Nicepool.
Gold Desert Eagle Pistols
Nicepool has better guns than Deadpool. As identified by Deadpool, Nicepool has a pair of “Pistoleros Desert Eagle .50 caliber” gold guns, vs. the twin Desert Eagle Mark XIX pistols that Deadpool carries.
Punisher’s Banner Canon
Elektra uses Punisher’s Banner Canon during the fight with Cassandra Nova.
“There’s Only One Blade”
Wesley Snipes says, “There’s only one Blade.” It’s a joke to the fact that BLADE is still on the backburner by Marvel Studios after a couple of failed boot attempts.
Blade says “Some motherf*ckers are always trying to ice skate uphill.” This is an iconic line from Blade (1998)
X-23’s Sunglasses
As they start to battle, X-23 puts on her pink and blue flowered sunglasses from Logan (2017).
Sling Ring
Cassandra Nova uses a sling ring to open a portal for Deadpool and Wolverine to go back to Earth-10005. She claims she found it on a dead magician’s body.
Marvel Sparkle Circle
This is what Deadpool calls the portal that opens with a sling ring.
Deadpool and Wolverine Mid-Credit Scene
The mid-credit scene is behind-the-scenes footage of various Fox production clips from the Fox Marvel movies. “Time of Your Life” by Green Day plays.
Deadpool and Wolverine Post Credit Scene
Deadpool is at the TVA proving he did not get Johnny Storm killed and that Johnny mouthed off on his ow saying those things about Cassandra Nova.
What was your favorite Deadpool and Wolverine Easter egg? Did you find any we missed?
About DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE
Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date—”Deadpool & Wolverine.” A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to—F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.
