We had an exclusive screening of the new Disney Channel movie DESCENDANTS and then a Q+A with Director Kenny Ortega last month. My daughter loved the book, so I was excited to see Descendants before tonight’s 8 pm Disney Channel debut!
Descendants was incredible. I expected nothing less from Kenny Ortega, but I’m pretty sure Descendants is going to be another huge hit for the Disney Channel, just like the High School Musical series was.

In present-day Auradon, Ben, the teenaged son of King “Beast” and Queen Belle, is poised to take the throne. As his first act of King, he offers a chance for redemption to the trouble-making teenaged descendants of defeated Villains (Cruella de Vil, Maleficent the Evil Queen, and Jafar) exiled to the remote Isle of the Lost. The Villains’ descendants(Carlos, Mal, Evie and Jay, respectively) have been granted permission to attend prep school in the kingdom with the Disney heroes’ kids. However, the evil teens face a dilemma. Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom? The story goes from there.

Whether you prefer to “long live evil” or you believe that there is good in everyone, this movie has it all. Aside from Kenny Ortega’s incredible choreography and directing skills or the social issues that Descendants tackles, this movie is packed full of heart and wildly amazing dance numbers, such as “Rotten to the Core.”

The theme of social acceptance and anti-bullying is one that is perfect for tweens (and everyone, really). The Disney Channel has really done a stellar job with Descendants. It’s all about making choices. We’ll be glued to the TV tonight at 8 and then afterward for the premiere of BUNK’D.
