As a child, I can vividly remember seeing my first Disney on Ice when I was 6 years old. Watching Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse skate around was magical. My parents drove me to Syracuse, NY, nearly 3 hours away for the event, since we lived in the middle of nowhere. We stayed at the hotel that my dad’s friend managed that night after the show and drove home the following day. This wasn’t something my parents did for me on a whim. My love for the Mouse and Disney and the arts, in general, was strong even at a young age—as was theirs for me in order for them to be willing to put forth so much effort for a 90-minute show.
Fortunately for me and my kids, we live in an area where we can hop on the train or take a drive into town to see Disney on Ice when it come to town and it isn’t nearly the ordeal for me as it was for my parents to share the experience with my children. Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment is at the Moda Center in Portland through October 23rd.
Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment was phenomenal. The core characters introduce you to the show, because let’s face it, what would any Disney on Ice show be without Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy?
I can’t even tell you what my favorite part of the show was because there were so many. If I really had to choose, it’s probably the Green Army Men in Andy’s toy chest from Toy Story 3. That was fantastic. Skating choreographed Army Men. Incredible. We love Toy Story. It’s one of my all-time favorite Disney • Pixar animated films (I’m looking forward to Toy Story 4).
Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang hit the ice in a high-energy, jam-packed adventure that made the audiences go wild. My kids loved Barbie and Ken. Such a fun sequence with really great music. Whether you’re a 9-year-old girl or a 49-year old man, you can find something entertaining about this show.
Life-size Disney•Pixar’s Cars characters—Lightning McQueen, Tow Mater, and the crew rocked the ice in motorized vehicles. Who doesn’t love a Lightning McQueen that shoots flares on ice and drives all directions? Spectacular.
The show also includes the most exciting moments from the number one animated feature film of all time, Disney’s Frozen. Audiences of all ages enjoyed seeing their favorite characters from the animated film including Anna and Elsa, along with Olaf and Kristoff, live on ice. Pretty much the entire stadium was singing along with all of the popular songs. Anna and Elsa shared their heartfelt story of true love between two sisters while we got to see all the best of Frozen performed before our eyes.
