You guys! I was so excited to see this on the plane this morning! For once lousy Wi-Fi didn’t break my heart! And OMG Chewie!!!!!!! If you don’t know, Chewie is Carol Danvers’ cat, or rather, Flerken. Check out the bottom left of the poster and you can see Chewie hanging out. I’ve waited so long for this trailer to drop!

The 90s References galore
Since the film takes place in the 90s, the filmmakers have started the opening of the trailer with Carol Danvers falling from the sky crashing into a Blockbuster Video. You may have seen the stills in Entertainment Weekly that show her wearing the Nine Inch Nails (NIN) shirt. This movie is sure to be chock full of 90s references.
Nick Fury’s Beeper
Back to the 90s again. But it’s not the same beeper/pager that he had at the end of Avengers Infinity War. This could mean a couple of things. The message at the end of Avengers Infinity War that Nick Fury sends out reads “WITH TARGET.” It’s plausible that S.H.I.E.L.D’s intentions are sinister, meaning Carol is the target. It could be something as simple as a technology throwback because Carol is a 90s girl and likes old tech.
S.H.I.E.L.D. ties (and that NIN shirt)
There’s a clip of her wearing an OG S.H.I.E.L.D. logo had and that NIN shirt in a subway station when she accesses a keypad with her fingerprint while standing next to someone likely to be Nick Fury. This scene cuts to a doctor examining a Skrull in what appears to be a medical facility, indicating their knowledge of the Skrulls and that Carol Danvers may have worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. (If you don’t know, the Skrulls are an alien race that are mortal enemies of the Kree. We’ve seen evidence that the Captain Marvel film explores the Kree-Skrull War, and there has been fan speculation that it leads to the Secret Invasion, an event in the comics where the Skrulls secretly invaded Earth. Skrulls are shapeshifters and able to choose any disguise they wish
Nick Fury’s awesome voice-over…with two eyes
“Renegade soldier. It never occurred to me one might come from above. Space invasion, big car chase. Truth be told, I was ready to hang it up until I met you today.” We see a younger Nick Fury, with both eyes. Carol Danvers and Nick Fury appear to be in civilian clothing for much of this trailer and with the accessing of the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility I mentioned above and the beeper send, I’m thinking they may have breached a facility and gone rogue? Theories? Anyone?
Coulson.
Did you catch that glimpse of a younger Coulson?
Ronan the Accuser
Did you catch the quick glimpse of him looking over a planet from his spaceship?
The Helmet
Look quickly and you can catch a scene in which Carol Danvers is wearing her Helmet like the one from the comics. We see Starforce rocketing through the dark universe. There’s a better shot at the end of the trailer, too.
Carol Danvers’ Powers
There are a couple of clips of Carol Danvers in her youth and one particular clip that appears to be where a crater has landed and yet another where she is pushed back in her pilot’s uniform. One of these has to be when she gained her powers. In the comics, Carol Danvers was introduced as the love interest of the then-actual Captain Marvel comic character, a Kree warrior disguised on Earth called Mar-Vell. After being caught in the explosive blast of a Kree superweapon called the Psyche-Magnetron, Carol’s DNA was merged with Mar-Vell’s, granting her his powers and making her a half-Kree hybrid. I’ve read that in the movie Captain Marvel‘s origin is to be changed slightly but how is yet to be stated.
Her ability to see the Skrulls when disguised? Wicked. Because we know Carol Danvers doesn’t go around punching grandmas.
Carol Danvers’ Memories
Carol’s memories play a prominent role in the trailer. There’s a shot of her looking over Kree-Lar, intercut with her as an airforce pilot with Monica Photon Rambeau. She talks about remembering thinking she had a life here, meaning Earth, but she doesn’t know if it is real. There’s the shot of her in the Kree machine on the ship. She has no recollection of the details of her life and how she got her powers.
Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel is a Bad Ass
But that isn’t a secret.
