When something goes wrong with your car, whether it is as simple as windshield wiper blade that needs replacing that you don’t know how to deal with, or it’s something a bit bigger like some nicks and scratches on the surface or a dent that leaves you with a sinking feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach that you have a spendy repair on your hands. This may partly be due to the hassle you will have to undergo to take your car into the shop in addition to the cost involved. What may make this dread even greater is to have the classic scenario happen—you get your car fixed and it ends up costing way more than expected and you feel like you’ve been taken for a ride.
Making Sure You Get What You Deserve
When you need something done to your car, it is easy to overlook hidden fees and to avoid asking the necessary questions in favor of getting the problem fixed fast. However, it pays (perhaps literally) to slow down and do some comparison shopping. Perhaps the auto shop closest to you may not necessarily offer the best deal. It’s always best to call up several places and ask exactly how much a procedure costs. Hold them to the price that they quote you, because they (should) know you can take your business elsewhere. While it’s a quote, you have signed that quote and there should be no change in price unless there is additional work that needs to be done, and that work should not be done unless you have agreed to it before the work gets started.
Compare Maintenance Prices
Are you a great online shopper? You can find websites that will do the comparison shopping for you. Look for data on what a car repair service costs compared, for example, try a website like Pennsylvania Toyota maintenance. You can browse through categories of procedures and codes, such as windshield wiper replacement, an oil change, tire rotation, or other routine maintenance. There are other services and more comprehensive procedures, listed, too.
Go That Extra Mile
The best place to repair or give your car regular maintenance may not be the closest location. It may be worth it to go that extra mile to find a dealer who will charge you exactly the price quoted and guarantee the work. There are a number of car repair shops competing for the same customers, so it is in the mechanic’s best interest to be fair. You may find that not all car maintenance places are consistently inexpensive for all services, and it is a good idea to research services each and every time your car needs attention. The place with the best oil change may not offer the best price on a tile rotation. And the place that offers the best pricing for a tire rotation is likely not the place that will fix that dent at the best price. The best provider of car maintenance maybe down the street or across town, but you owe it to your car to find the best service at the most reasonable price.
