We’ll preface this review by saying a few things:
- HAMILTON doesn’t really even need a review. The tickets pretty much sell themselves.
- My family is Lin-Manuel Miranda and HAMILTON obsessed. We own an obscene amount of LMM composed music.
- LMM is a genius. Period.
- When I interviewed LMM for Moana, I could barely get my words out, that’s how much I truly believe the man is a genius and incredible. I literally couldn’t form a sentence.
My husband and youngest daughter saw the show on the media night at Keller Auditorium. I was traveling back from a press trip to Hawaii that night but already had purchased tickets to a later season performance to see the show with our oldest daughter (who is legit obsessed with the show; I promised her about 18 months ago that I wouldn’t see the show without her and I’ve stuck to the promise, despite having been in NYC a half dozen times since making it).
My oldest daughter had seen that Leslie Odom Jr, was in the Portland-area on March 20 (via IG stories) and we were wondering if there was a possibility he might take the stage during one of the performances the way LMM does sometimes in NYC. So far, no sightings, but you never know. That would be a heck of a treat for an audience to see him reprise the role of Aaron Burr.
My youngest loved it. While she loves the music, we weren’t sure how she’d do sitting through HOURS of a musical about American History. It was a hit and the length didn’t matter, even to a 10-year-old with ADHD. She sat through the whole show and loved it. She asked if she could see it again. I told her we’d try the HAMILTON lottery for tickets. My husband isn’t a huge theatre guy, and he really enjoyed the musical. That’s saying a lot.
