Happy Thanksgiving! No Thanksgiving feast is complete without cranberry sauce. As a child, we usually had cranberry sauce from a can. A few years back, my son asked to make homemade cranberry sauce (he was in kindergarten). Six Thanksgivings later, we are still making homemade cranberry sauce and perfecting it every year. This Thanksgiving, we made Homemade Cranberry Pomegranate Sauce. Here’s my recipe if you want to make your own.
What you need:
(2) 12 oz. bags of fresh cranberries
16 oz. pomegranate juice
1/2 cup sugar
What you do:
Rinse the cranberries in a colander. Move the cranberries to a medium-sized saucepan and turn the heat on the stove to medium. Add the pomegranate juice and sugar and stir. Bring the cranberry, pomegranate, and sugar mixture to a boil. Once its reaches a steady boil, turn the heat down to low. Simmer until cranberries are cooked down and sauce thickens, about 20 minutes. Turn off the heat and let cranberry pomegranate sauce cool. Transfer to serving or storage dish and chill. Serve cold.
Tips
I’ve also made this homemade cranberry pomegranate sauce with orange juice or apple cider instead of the pomegranate juice. If you make it with orange juice, you may want to decrease the sugar just a bit. If you make it with apple cider, you may want to increase the sugar just a bit.
