If you’ve ever wondered how long Marvel actors have to keep a secret when they are cast in a role, the youngest cast ever managed to keep his role a secret for nearly 2 years. 8-year-old Divine Love Konadu-Sun was a mere 6 years old when he was cast as Toussaint in BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER.
INTERVIEW Divine Love Konadu-Sun Talks BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER
In a recent interview with Divine Love Konadu-Sun to celebrate the start of Black History Month and the start of BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER streaming on Disney+.
Divine Love Konadu-Sun portrays Toussaint in BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER, who is also known as Prine T’Challa, T’Challa’s son.
For an 8-year-old boy, Divine Love wasn’t nearly as reserved as he could have been. His warm, huge smile was infectious and just radiated such kind energy. He was excited to share about his time on set as Toussaint.
His character, Toussaint, was named after François-Dominique Toussaint Louverture, a Haitian general and the most prominent leader of the Haitian Revolution.
Divine-Love said one of his favorite moments on set had to do with the historical context of his name.
“It was when I was sitting with Shuri and Nakia, and I said that Toussaint was my Haitian name.”
Divine Love also shared a bit about what it was like hanging out with Shuri as a whole.
“It was a dream come true because Shuri was my favorite character in Black Panther part one.”
As one would expect from any actor, Divine Love Konadu-Sun was excited to see himself on screen for the first time.
“It was definitely very, like, exciting. It was wonderful,” Konadu-Sun said. “It’s a dream come true because I’ve been wanting to do it for so long. And also it was just amazing because I finally got to see myself on the big screen, and I’ve wanted to do that ever since I saw Black Panther.”
Sometimes actors are allowed to keep a souvenir from the set after they wrap. Divine Love shared what he was able to keep from the set after filming BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER.
“I had a chair with my name on it. And I got that piece from the chair.”
