Let’s Drink! We can Celebrate National Wine Day (5/25/2017) with some ah-mazing wine selections. Some of the wines on this list have been given consideration because of samples we have received for review, bit not all. As always, all opinions are our own.
San Simeon 2016 Sauvignon Blanc ($18.95)
With warm days and cool nights, Paso Robles gets a nice long hang time, allowing the Sauvignon Blanc grapes to ripen to their fullest potential, making them highly concentrated and flavorful. Stainless steel fermentation preserves the delicate, graceful flavors of the Sauvignon Blanc before 10 percent of the wine is transferred to neutral French oak barrels for complexity and depth. The nose reveals bright aromas of white peach and lime zest, accompanied by mineral notes which express the vineyard’s rocky terroir in this bright refreshing wine with intense citrus and pear flavors. This structured and well-balanced wine exhibits a lengthy, smooth finish.
Maddalena 2014 Chardonnay ($15)
This chardonnay greets the nose with a bouquet of ripe fruit aromas, including citrus, guava, and orange peel. This wine shows depth and body, complemented by forward tropical fruit flavors with a touch of spicy oak for complexity. Its balanced acidity creates structure and a long, complex finish.
San Simeon 2013 Stormwatch ($70)
Simeon Stormwatch is a rich, mouth-filling wine with ripe flavors of blackberry, dark cherry, and raspberry. French oak barrels contribute spice and vanilla. Structured tannins provide texture and depth with a lengthy finish. Stormwatch is perfectly balanced between power and finesse.
San Simeon 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon ($26)
San Simeon Cabernet Sauvignon offers bright aromas of dark raspberry and black cherry. Ripe flavors of spicy plum and currant are complemented by nuances of cocoa and cedary oak from barrel-aging. Structured tannins provide texture and depth with a lengthy finish. A small percentage of Petit Verdot was added for additional complexity.
San Simeon 2015 Viognier ($18)
A bright floral nose with mineral notes expressing the rocky terroir of the vineyard. This structured and well-balanced wine has a lengthy finish.

Rodney Strong 2016 Rosé of Pinot Noir ($25)
Rosé all day!!! This new 2016 Rosé of Pinot Noir is beautifully colored, with fresh, vibrant aromas and flavors of strawberry, white peach, jasmine, and watermelon and hints of tangerine. It’s brilliant, bold, and bright with fresh acidity and a wonderful lasting juicy mineral finish. This is my new favorite American-made Rosé of Pinot Noir. I can’t get enough. At the price, it’s a steal.
