As if Disney Plus wasn’t already the best Christmas gift, it’s got new and classic Christmas productions streaming this season. Disney Magic and the Magic of Christmas work hand in hand. So, it’s no surprise that some of the best Disney Classics come out at this time of year. Now they are all available through Disney Plus. These are the 10 best Disney Plus Christmas movies.
Disney Plus Christmas Movies
Home Alone
This John Hughes/Chris Columbus classic is not Disney. At least it wasn’t, but now Disney owns the franchise, so we get to see this one-of-a-kind Christmas film about a boy left home alone at Christmas. My kids love this movie.
Home Alone 2
Okay, so lightning didn’t exactly strike twice, but as sequels go, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is better than some originals. It uses the same formula as the first film and throws in some extras to make the follow up just as worthwhile and a ton of fun thanks to the talents of Tim Curry and Rob Schneider.
The Santa Clause
Here’s a true Disney Christmas Classic. The sequels of this one don’t make the cut, but this very original Santa Claus story is hilarious and heartfelt. Next to Kurt Russel, Tim Allen makes the Santa Claus role sparkle with the perfect blend of wit and heart.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol has been made and remade dozens of times, but only one time did it stare Mickey Mouse and Scrooge McDuck in the role he was made for. The concise retelling of the Dickens classic is artfully animated and cleverly uses a diverse cast of repurposed Disney characters.
Muppets Christmas Carol
For a feature-length and very silly, yet heartfelt adaptation of A Christmas Carol, Muppet Christmas Carol can’t be beaten. Gonzo plays Dickens as narrator and Michael Cane nails the role of Scrooge.
Lady and the Tramp
What a fun Disney animated classic. Lady and the Tramp is a special breed of Disney animated film that could never be duplicated. The story is bookended by a Christmas setting, which sets a lovely peaceful and cheery tone to underscore the drama.
Disneyland Around the Seasons
This rare treat comes out of the vault to show Disneyland as it was near the end of Walt Disney’s reign as King of the Magic Kingdom.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
There is no better time of year to watch this film. While different themes pervade this C.S. Lewis adaptation, the idea of Christmas breaking up eternal winter and bringing lasting change to the World of Narnia resonates in our world as well.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my personal favorite movies ever, not just for Christmas. A different kind of world, but no less wonderous is the one from the mind of Tim Burton, where Halloween Town collides with Christmas Town in a reverse-Grinch type scenario.
I’ll Be Home For Christmas
Finally, there is this classic TV movie that has just enough charm to stay relevant despite the plethora of Christmas films that were produced thereafter. It’s a comic road trip/coming of age story about a teenage grifter who learns the meaning of Christmas while racing home for the holidays to claim a Porsche 356 from his estranged dad.
Bonus Pick: Noelle
Those are some of my favorite Christmas movies and they are the top Disney Plus offerings to celebrate the Holiday season? Thanks for reading. I love these productions and I hope you will, too. What are your top picks?
