About OBI-WAN KENOBI Episode 2
Obi-Wan Kenobi must rescue Leia from the unknown of Daiyu, which means leaving the safety and anonymity of Tatooine. OBI-WAN KENOBI Episode 2 was just as exciting as Episode 1 with cameos and new faces.
Let’s get into “Part Two” with this “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Episode 2 Easter eggs and breakdown.
If you haven’t seen “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Episode 2, this is your spoiler warning.
OBI-WAN KENOBI EPISODE 2 EASTER EGGS and BREAKDOWN
When Obi-Wan arrives at Daiyu, he realizes his beacon signal is jammed. Daiyu has a very similar feel to Marvel’s Madripoor, John Wick 3‘s Morocco, or Kate‘s Tokoyo.
Once again, Obi-Wan calls on Qui-Gon for guidance with no response.
We see a helmetless, veteran Clone Trooper in 501st armor sitting on the ground asking for credits. This veteran Clone Trooper is played by Temuera Morrison, who also has played Jango Fett and currently plays Boba Fett.
Obi-Wan has a brief conversation with a young woman named Tetha Grig while looking for Leia. The woman is played by Ewan McGregor’s real-life daughter Esther Rose McGregor.
A young boy named Jayco (played by Jecobi Swain of “Home Economics”), leads Kenobi to a “Jedi” who can help him. That Jedi is actually a con-man named Haja Estree (played by Eternals‘ Kumail Nanjiani).
Haja pretends to be a Jedi and uses Jedi mind tricks and the Force to con people out of money who are looking to get off the planet. He mentions Corellia, the home planet of Han Solo, to the woman desperate to get her child to safety. Her child’s name is listed as Corran in the credits. Corran Horn is a pilot in Star Wars Legends. A pilot from Rogue Squadron, Corran came from Corellia and ended up becoming a Jedi.
As Obi-Wan noodles how to get into the building where Leia is being held captive, he mimics the beard pulling that Alec Guinness made famous in A New Hope.
Obi-Wan makes his way into the spice facility and causes a distraction in order to get into the back. It’s a trap, and he ends up confronted by the kidnappers. They know he is Kenobi. He manages to escape thanks to some spice and finds Leia. Leia is unsure whether or not she should trust Obi-Wan but ultimately goes with him (what other choice does she have?).
Reva continues to bash heads with the Grand Inquisitor. He reveals that she is hoping to gain power from Vader by delivering Kenobi to him.
In order to trap Kenobi, Reva puts a bounty on Kenobi that goes out to every bounty hunter on the planet, similar to John Wick 3.
Leia’s green cloak top and braided hair is a nod to her look on Endor in The Return of the Jedi.
Obi-Wan tells Leia his name is Ben; She responds with “That is not a Jedi name.”
Leia sees that Obi-Wan has a bounty on him, decides he must be a bad guy and runs away. He chases after her and a shootout with two Bounty Hunters ensues. One of the troopers looks like 4-LOM who first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back.
Trying to escape from Obi-Wan, Leia jumps from rooftop to rooftop but falls. Obi-Wan uses The Force to keep her from getting hurt (she believes him now).
Obi-Wan and Leia run into Haja who offers to get them off-planet.
Haja uses his Jedi con-man act to distract Reva, but isn’t fooled and uses the Dark Side of the force to get the information she needs from him about Obi-Wan and Leia’s whereabouts.
Leia reminds Obi-Wan of Padme with her stubbornness and behavior. In fact, any Star Wars fan will be reminded not only of Padme’s stubbornness as her mother but of Leia in every iteration throughout the years. Blair’s portrayal of Leia is SPOT ON. Blair captures the perfect blend of mischievousness and dignity, wit and humor, brains and tenacity, empathy and heart. She embodies Leia and a miniature Carrie Fisher as no one could. My inner Enneagram 8w7 was screaming watching her in these first two episodes.
Reva finds the pair at the cargo ship platform. Reva tells Obi-Wan that Anakin Skywalker is alive and has been looking for him.
The Grand Inquisitor shows up to stop Reva and get Obi-Wan for himself, but Reva slays him with a lightsaber.
Obi-Wan and Leia escape on an automated cargoship. Obi-Wan feels Anakin through The Force.
We see Anakin in a Bacta Tank and he opens his eyes.
