Planning a vacation at the Disneyland Resort is going to be trickier than ever this year. The biggest new opening since New Orleans Square looms large on the horizon. Disneyland 2019 will not follow the usual attendance patterns due to the very highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. When the new Star Wars Land opens this Summer, there is no telling its potential effect on the parks. As you plan your next visit to Disneyland, consider these months for when to visit Disneyland 2019. BOOK YOUR DISNEY VACATION NOW!
Best Months for Crowds – Disneyland 2019 Off Season
You always want to look at coming attractions opening dates and when school is in session when looking at best and worst times to visit Disneyland.
To avoid the crowds at Disneyland this year, the best months to visit Disneyland are January–February and April–early May. Spring Break dates are staggered all throughout the month of March so it will be a less desirable time to visit unless of course, you are on Spring Break.
Weather is not much of a factor in determining when to visit Disneyland, unlike Florida. The fair southern California climate may be affected by some windy bouts in the fall, particularly in October.
Occasionally rain falls in moderation during winter. However, these changes rarely act as a deterrent and are usually not planned for. The primary cause of attendance spikes at Disneyland is time off from work and school. Holidays and school breaks in summer, spring, and winter are the busiest times to go because everyone is available and they all have the same idea. The best time to go to Disneyland is from late winter to early spring and in early fall. These are the times when school is usually in session, but you will have to dance around the holidays like Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday and Presidents Day.
Worst Months for Crowds
It should go without saying, things get busier when school lets out. Starting briefly in March and then from the end of May throughout the Summer months, attendance will be higher. Add to that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is opening and you will want to take a break from Disneyland for most of the rest of the year. October will be a relatively okay time to visit but expect crowds to continue well into Winter due to the massive popularity of Star Wars Land.
Star Wars Domination
Galaxy’s Edge is opening for the first time at Disneyland 2019 in the Summer. There is no official opening date yet. However, there will likely be a soft open, which will probably be the best chance to experience the new land this year. Speculation for the grand opening is June 21 based on pass holder blackout dates, but there is no guarantee of this.
If this is the case, it is likely that May is the time to visit before school starts letting out. The problem with this strategy is that there is no guarantee that the new Land will be ready. However, once the floodgates are opened, it will likely not settle down for the rest of the year. Even when the same land opens at Disney World in the Fall, it is unlikely that we will see any dramatic change to attendance.
The new land promises cutting edge entertainment with new immersive environments, interactivity, and two technologically advanced rides that take the Disney experience to an entirely new level. Star Wars has been a huge focus for Disney since they acquired the franchise in 2012. After audiences have become used to additional Star Wars stories, there will have been over a year without a new Star Wars release by the opening of the new land, which may generate a sufficient resurgence of interest, that should spill over into the next film release this Christmas.
Best time to Experience Galaxy’s Edge
While there is no official opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, we know it is scheduled to open in June 2019. The Star Wars Land in Walt Disney World has a late fall opening, so it may be better to visit Disneyland in the Winter 2019 and hope Florida will get the majority of the holiday crowds.
