With ANT-MAN and THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA just around the corner, now’s the time to make sure you’re caught up on all the films where you see Ant-Man and the Wasp to make sure you’re up to date. Here’s a list of movies to watch before ANT-MAN and THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA February 17, 2023.
What to Watch Before Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania
Ant-Man (2015)
ANT-MAN stars Paul Rudd as a burglar recruited by Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to don the Ant-Man suit in order to stop the technology from becoming weaponized by villain Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), Pym’s former prodigy. Cross recreated the technology in the form of a new suit, and Ant-Man must battle him to save the day.
Set in the immediate aftermath of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, ANT-MAN contains callbacks to the devastation at Sokovia.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
While it is a Captain America title, CIVIL WAR stars nearly every Avenger while introducing two more: Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Continuing the Sokovia story arc that began in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, The Avengers are fully split into two sides when Captain America wants to save his childhood friend Bucky Barnes, who is accused of the bombing at a UN session that killed the King of Wakanda.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
You don’t have to watch the whole movie unless you want to
The INFINITY WAR TL;DR: After years of orchestrating from behind-the-scenes to find all the Infinity Stones in order to wipe out half of the universe, Thanos (Josh Brolin) has decided to collect them himself. However, the Avengers, who are currently spread across the universe, stand in his way.
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
Placed on house arrest for his role in CIVIL WAR, Scott Lang has been estranged from Hank and Hope. Scott reluctantly agrees to help them retrieve Hope’s mother, Janet, from the Quantum Realm.
The ANT-MAN and THE WASP POST-CREDIT SCENE, Ant-Man was left trapped in the Quantum Realm when Janet, Hank, and Hope were erased by the Snap. Scott remained in the Quantum Realm for 5 years until a rat activated the Quantum Tunnel again.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
The big culmination of the MCU’s Phase 3 and 10 years of storytelling is wrapped up in this fourth AVENGERS film as Thanos Snaps away half of life in the universe and the Avengers work to make things right with the world.
As 5 years pass and the world reels from the aftermath of the Snap, the effect of the Snap is felt by the heroes as much as the people whose lives they are trying to put back together
While the story ties up plot points that began in previous movies and opens up new storylines for future MCU movies, Captain America and Tony Stark also come together to reunite the Avengers one last time.
“Loki” Series on Disney+ (2021)
The “Loki” series on Disney+ begins in the immediate wake of AVENGERS: ENDGAME. While the entire series isn’t relevant to ANT-MAN and THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA, you’ll want to be familiar with what Kang the Conqueror is up to before you hit the theatre for ANT-MAN and THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA.
Throughout the season there are other relevant Easter eggs as well, including in Episodes 5 and 6.
Bonus Watch: “WandaVision” Series on Disney+ (2021)
The first MCU property in Phase 4 is “WandaVision” on Disney+. The series takes place 3 weeks after the events of AVENGERS: ENDGAME and is nestled between ENDGAME and SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME.
The show is heavily centered around Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) who has finally found love with Vision (Paul Bettany) but is forced to kill him to avoid allowing Thanos to get the Mind Stone. Wanda takes over a small town in Westview, NJ, to recreate a happy life.
The show features some great moments with FBI Agent Jimmy Woo, who we know from the two Ant-Man movies.
