Hi, Peanut! We’re so excited for Deadpool and Wolverine to be back together on the big screen at the end of the month. If Deadpool or Wolverine isn’t your normal crew, here’s some watching material to ensure you’re up to speed for July 26th to watch the MCU’s only big screen 2024 release. Director Shawn Levy has stated that watching research isn’t necessary to enjoy Deadpool and Wolverine, but it’s always nice to understand a character’s history.

What to Watch Before Deadpool and Wolverine
Here’s a list of what to watch to prepare you for Deadpool and Wolverine, in order of most relevant to least important in case you run out of time.
X-Men (2000)
The beginning is always the best place to start. The first time we see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is in X-Men (2000). This is also our introduction to live-action Mutants.
X2: X-Men United (2003)
Wolverine’s relationship with the X-Men continues in X2: X-Men United (2003).
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
Deadpool and Wolverine meet on-screen for the first time in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). While the screen time is brief, the chemistry is great.
Deadpool (2016)
Deadpool’s R-rated, fourth-wall-breaking humor helped make this first Deadpool (2016) a hit. If you watch nothing else, this is an essential watch to truly know Deadpool.
Logan (2017)
After Deadpool (2016), the studios realized the fans liked gritty R-rated humor. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine days had found their finale (or so we thought) in Logan (2017).
Deadpool 2 (2018)
It is in Deadpool 2 (2018) we see Wade Wilson chasing a time-traveling mercenary while grieving the loss of his clawed friend.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)
While Deadpool and Wolverine don’t appear in Avengers: Endgame (2019), it is a great foray into the multiverse and branched timelines.

Loki (Seasons 1 & 2)
In “Loki” Seasons 1 and 2, we learn About the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and the fate of the Multiverse. The TVA is tasked with pruning the branches of the timeline in the multiverse that stray from the sacred timeline. While the show mainly focuses on Loki as a character, the TVA knowledge is useful since it is ultimately the multiverse that brings Deadpool and Wolverine together in the MCU.
